Heartland Recreational Vehicles continues to be a leader in innovative design, creating an integrated outdoor gathering area in its recently launched 3900FLP Big Country high-profile fifth-wheel with the addition of the company’s exclusive side patio onto its popular front living model.
With the adjoining patio situated just off the kitchen area, the 41-foot, five-slide 3900FLP features a wide sliding glass door that transitions guests and family to an area that adds over 70 square feet of living space complete with a flat-screen TV and exterior sound system. The side patio, first engineered for Heartland’s selection of toy haulers, represents an industry first in the luxury fifth-wheel segment.
“The 3900FLP caters to the indoor/outdoor lifestyle of today’s RVers,” said General Manager Joel Eberlein, noting the coach is debuting this week at America’s Largest RV Show in Hershey, Pa., and will also be shown at the Elkhart County RV Open House. “With the side patio, people don’t have to step down to the ground to enjoy their campsite. It offers an ideal entertainment area, allowing people to become engaged inside and outside the coach, much like a residential home.”
Eberlein reported that the side patio, built with a spring assist allowing for raising and lowering by one person, boasts a 1,500-pound capacity and aluminum side rails that are quick to set up and take down. A robust latch system coupled with heavy-duty seals on the perimeter of the patio ensure stability when the RV is in travel mode.
“Just like Heartland’s toy haulers, the 3900FLP’s side patio has undergone extensive engineering and durability testing to ensure resilience to on-the-road conditions,” Eberlein said. For added stability and handling, the 3900FLP is equipped with 7,000-pound Dexter axles with E-Z lube hubs, Dexter E-Z Flex suspension and Lippert’s Correct Track Alignment, complemented by four shock absorbers and 2015 G-rated tires.
The fifth-wheel’s interior is set off by a homelike cooking area that includes a recessed stove and optional residential refrigerator. For accommodating guests who congregate in the kitchen, the 3900FLP offers a two-tier dinette featuring a bar-height countertop design. “There has never been a kitchen designed with this kind of storage and open space,” said Eberlein.
The open concept living area, accented by opposing sliderooms, also provides an inviting gathering area with two full-size pull-out sofas and theater seating for viewing the 55-inch LED TV. Other amenities include solid-stained hardwood throughout, updated LED lighting and wall décor.
“Space, function and smart design is what Big Country is all about,” said Heartland President Chris Hermon. “That attention to detail enables Heartland to build fifth-wheels that don’t sacrifice the key ‘nut and bolts’ that other full-time brands give up.”
He added, “The number of people looking to full-time in their RV is growing, and Heartland continues to be the leader in this market segment.”
